What is a non-geographic number ?

Non-Geographical Numbers or NGN’s are an excellent addition to any home office and come with dozens of advantages;
• If you move office your number will not change, but can simply be re-pointed
• Your number can be diverted to your mobile or temporary location
• You can receive a revenue share based on every call received (applies to certain NGN’s only)
• You can provide Free calls for your customers to call you on (applies to certain NGN’s only)

Types of NGN

0800 – 0800 numbers are completely free to call for customers (excluding calls made from some mobiles.) and present a truly professional company that cares for its customers, although can be expensive to run due to the number owner having to cover a portion of the cost of each call made.

Recommended Uses: As two thirds of people will call a freephone number before any other, these numbers are ideally suited to companies who sell products and services to customers.

0844 – 0844 Numbers are revenue share based numbers meaning you receive revenue for every call received. This revenue can be up to 3 pence per minute, depending on the time the call was made and the type of 0844 number purchased. The cost of the call to the customer remains local rate, ie. Between 2 and 5 pence per minute.

Recommended Uses: Larger businesses who have enough calls to warrant a worthwhile revenue share on the 0844 numbers, ie Call Centres and Travel Agents.

0845 – 0845 Numbers are local rate numbers that do not provide a revenue share, allowing customers to call your business with a low call cost.

Recommended Uses: All Businesses who do not wish to receive a revenue share from their customers. Generally 0845 numbers are renowned as being Cheap to call and belonging to worthy and established businesses.

0870 – 0870 Numbers are currently being phased out, although used to be revenue bearing numbers which paid the owner up to 6 pence per minute for calls received and cost the customer the same as a national call. For a replacement to these numbers see 0871’s Below;

0871 – 0871 numbers are charged at national rate to your customers (between 0.5 and 8 Pence per Minute depending on their service provider and the time of day in which the call is made) they also pay revenue of up to 6 pence per minute to the person receiving the call.

09xx – Numbers starting with 09 are premium rate numbers and are used primarily for competitions and chat lines. Costs to the customer are between 25 pence per minute upwards.
